Up to 20 files per batch. Images are processed on your device and never uploaded.
Guide
When PNG to JPG is worth doing
PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is ideal for screenshots, logos and anything with transparency. The cost is size: a photo that was saved as PNG by an editing app or a phone screenshot tool can be several times bigger than the same photo as a JPG.
Converting makes sense when a website or form only takes JPG, when you want to email a batch of images without hitting an attachment limit, or when a photo ended up as PNG by accident.
Transparency turns white
JPG has no transparency. Every fully or partly transparent pixel is blended onto a white background before the JPG is written, so a logo on a see-through background will sit on white. If you need the transparency, keep the PNG.
Watch small text in screenshots
JPG compression can leave faint smudges around sharp edges such as small text and thin lines. The converter uses a high quality setting (92 out of 100), which keeps most screenshots readable, but check the preview before you delete the originals.
How to use it
- Drop your PNG files on the box above, or choose them with the button.
- Each file is converted as soon as it is added. Sizes and dimensions are shown for before and after.
- Save files one at a time, or save them all in one ZIP.
Questions
- Are my PNG files uploaded?
- No. The images are decoded and re-encoded by your browser on your own device. They are not sent to this site or anywhere else.
- Why is my JPG bigger than the PNG?
- This happens with simple graphics: large areas of flat colour compress extremely well as PNG and poorly as JPG. For icons, diagrams and most logos, the PNG is usually the better file to keep.
- What colour replaces the transparent background?
- White. Partly transparent edges, such as anti-aliased text, are blended onto white too, so they stay smooth.
- Are the pixel dimensions changed?
- No. The JPG has the same width and height as the PNG. The only exception is extremely large images on iPhone and iPad, which are scaled down to fit the browser's memory limit; the new size is shown if that happens.
- How many files can I convert at once?
- Up to 20 per batch. Use Clear to start a new batch.
