Compress an image to a size in KB
Upload forms often set a size limit such as "under 50 KB". Choose a target and the tool finds the highest quality that fits. Your photo or document never leaves your device.
Drop JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC images here
Up to 20 files per batch. Images are processed on your device and never uploaded.
Guide
Check the official requirements first
Every application portal sets its own rules for file size, pixel dimensions, format and sometimes background colour or how recent a photo must be. The presets here are generic sizes, not the rules of any particular exam or form. Confirm the requirements in the official notification or instructions for your application before you upload.
If the instructions give exact pixel dimensions, resize the image to those first. This tool may also reduce dimensions to hit a size, and it shows the final width and height so you can check.
How the tool reaches the target
The result is always a JPG. The tool tries different JPG quality levels and keeps the highest one that comes in under your limit. If even a low quality is still too big, it reduces the width and height by about 15% and tries again, repeating until the file fits.
The saved file is re-encoded as a new JPG, so location and camera details stored in the original photo are not included.
Minimum sizes, like 20 to 50 KB
Some forms set a minimum as well as a maximum. A small or very plain image can come out below the minimum even at the best quality. The tool will tell you when that happens. It will not pad the file with filler data to fake a bigger size; padded files can be rejected as damaged, and they hide the real issue. Start from the original photo or a higher-resolution scan instead.
How KB are counted
Sites disagree on whether 1 KB means 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. To be safe either way, maximums are treated as 1,000 bytes per KB and minimums as 1,024 bytes per KB. The exact byte count is shown next to each result.
Questions
- Which preset should I use for my exam or application form?
- Whichever one the official instructions ask for. Requirements differ between organisations and change between years, so check the current notification. If the limit is not in the list, use a custom maximum.
- Why did the width and height of my image change?
- Lowering JPG quality alone was not enough to get under the limit, so the image was made smaller in steps of about 15% until it fit. The final dimensions are shown with the result.
- It says my file is below the minimum. What now?
- The image does not contain enough detail to reach the minimum size, even at high quality. Use the original, full-size photo or scan the document at a higher resolution. The tool will not add filler bytes to inflate the file.
- Will the compressed image look blurry?
- At small targets like 20 KB, some softness is unavoidable, especially for large photos. Check that faces, signatures and text are still clear before you upload.
- Can I compress a PNG or HEIC?
- Yes. PNG, WebP and HEIC files are accepted and the result is a JPG. Transparent areas become white.
- Is my document or ID photo uploaded?
- No. Everything happens in your browser. The file is not sent to this site or to anyone else.
